The Equinox Drummers was established in 2023 at the Coldwater Public School, in Coldwater, Ontario. The primary intention of our group is to foster the learning of Indigenous traditions and teachings to the children and youth in our community.
When the Equinox Drummers first began, there were only five children participating, and over the years it has grown to about 30 children and youth. To make this program possible, we have five amazing volunteers and ongoing support from the communities of Coldwater, Waubaushene and Midland.
We teach drumming at Coldwater Public School for any child that wants to participate, and we host a drum group on Fridays after school at the Coldwater Legion. Our group has expanded from drumming, singing and teachings, to ribbon skirt and shirt making, drum stick making, jewellery making, and much more. These teachings are free to attend.
